RE: registration mixup

The whole experience was a nightmare of mistakes on their part, including giving us a false odometer reading (human error, they, said, one of many) The false odometer reading would have been enough to run, not walk, back to NC. I went and looked at one a while back that was suppose to have 69k on it and I would have bought it, even with the other things wrong. But I found a sticker where the oil had been changed at 162,000 miles, thats one hundred sixty two thousand miles. So I ran and still don't have a B. One day tho. wanna

RE: Best electric ceramic heater?

I don't know which one is the best but we like this one. We use it in our bathroom at home thru the winter and when we travel we take it with us in the B. We've never used the furnace in the rv. The Lasko keeps us plenty warm. Use one in bathroom like that. It works great and will run you out of there if left on high too long, really heats. I think I paid $20 for it. Lowes has all their heaters, except the Mr Buddy, on clearance at %50 off. They had a bunch of different models. W

RE: Buddy Heaters in Bs

Mr Buddy is a radiant ceramic grid heater as opposed to the Olympic and Coleman catalytic(procat) heaters. I just bought a Coleman Procat as it was on sale and I couldn't pass it up. But the Mr Buddy would be a better one as it heats whats in front of it, not the air all around and you get immediate heat. I heat my shop with a 5 brick radiant gas heater. If you are wanting a Mr Buddy, they are on sale at various places now for around $64. Last spring, Lowes had them on closeout for less than $40 so keep a lookout and they will be on sale again in the up coming months. W

RE: New top installed

www.fiberglassme.com quoted me a price of $700. for a camper top. They are in NC and do not install them. For Ford extended van. www.cyclevan. com, in NJ said $3400 for top installed and top finished inside, for Ford extended van. Has anyone ever found/got a pop-top roof from the junk yard , removed it and reinstalled it on your van? Can get a 2000 ford van now but after reading about the head/spark plug issue, I am on hold for the time being. W

RE: Ever Spend Christmas in Your B?

Merry Christmas back to all. Ranger01, very nice reading and interesting. thanks. RonDMC, looking good and if that won't get you motivated to put up some decorations, nothing will. Still a Wana B but "hopefully" will have a cargo van soon and I can start a DIY conversion. Will surely decorate it. W

RE: "B" Lifeboat

... A friend of mine actually plugs in the house reefer to his MH genny to keep the food from spoiling during outages. I may do the same if they say the outage will last a long time. Does anybody else do that? I had a ~2 day power outage a few years ago in the wake of a hurricane. I ran two HD extension cords from the Roadtrek into the house thru a window. One was dedicated to the house fridge, and supplied from the A/C outlet in the upper rear cabinet. The other powered a TV, a few lamps, and the computer, and came from an interior outet. Oddly enough, the cable & phone didn't go out. I did unplug everything at about 10 PM, and shut off the Onan, so it wouldn't disturb the neighbors. Like Primeoflife, my gas gauge barely moved. I think I could have gotten by like that for about a week more if needed. What size generator was that Handbasket? I remember that storm as we didn't get anything here but you got hammered. I had a 2500 watt one during another storm and after the power was out I hooked it up to the fridge and it ran for about 5 min and burnt up. Of course it was one month out of warranty and the maker said tough, that I should not have used it on the fridge as it was not strong enough to start and run one. When I build my B, it will have one somewhere. Wana B I do suggest feeling plugs and cords for hot spots occasionally, tho' the breakers are theoretically enough protection. Jim, "Mo' coffee!"

RE: Bumfuzzle

Why a VW van??? PARTS and service. You can get parts just about any where on earth, and any, most likely, shop will be able to fix it if needed. Beside that, it's just plain COOL!!. W

RE: How tall for the top

Looking at a 2000 250 Ford extended. They are all probably close so you are right for at least 24in. Especially if you put in 1/2 to 3/4in plywood and flooring. However the difference between 22/23 and a 24 inch one is over $700 at the two places I have found. wana b

How tall for the top

Planning "stuff" when I can get the van to convert. Have checked with several places on their raised roofs and wonder just how tall the top needs to be to give stand up room. One place near has a sport fiberglass roof that is 22-23 inches tall. Will that give stand up room? plana B

RE: Winterizing a Pleasure-Way

WANA B,Thats exactly what I do with my PW Excel. I like that system much better. That seems SO much easier and no messing with antifreeze, no matter how friendly it is. I would not want to drink water from a system that had had this stuff in it.I can see putting it in holding tanks. When I build MY B, it will completely "drainable" Maybe the makers have a vested interest in winterizing antifreeze? wana b will hava b

RE: Winterizing a Pleasure-Way

Not knowing anything about this winterizing, why is there not some way to drain the the tanks and pump and potti and use air to blow out the system so as not to have to add antifreeze and then have to get the pink stuff out when you are ready to use it? wanna b learning.

RE: How many miles do Ford van conversion motors go?

Considering an old Ford van conversion with about 116,000 miles on it. How far can they go? No rust on outside yet. That's like asking how long you are going to live. So many ways of how it was maintained, what it pulled, how heavy the foot of the driver, etc. I had told myself that I would never buy a used anything with 75-80k on the clock BUT, I recently found a Toyoto Van with 118k and absolutely perfect maintenance records and looked like new inside and out so I got it for DD and she loves it. It is a 2002 so it was on the road a lot and that is better than city driving. All you can do is check it out or have someone check it out and see. If it checks out and the price is right, only you can make that jump. W

RE: Storage in B's enough?

I've had a Class C and now have a 32' Class A. I'm considering getting a 28-29 foot Class B, like the Lexington. Has anyone gone from an A or C to a B, and did you find you gave up too much storage, inside and out? Just wondering what to expect. Thanks. A 28-29 foot class B???? How about a picture of that Class B?? w

wanna b soon to be

After over a year long quest, I have a opportunity to get a DIY van to fix up like I want/need. It's a 2000 Ford Super van cargo, V8, heavy duty tow package, E250. It has 37,000 miles. Will drive it tomorrow and see how it goes. The price is right so I may have a project for this winter. W

RE: Trip stopped short... A B mis-adventure (long story)

I wonder if there's a way to convert a carbureted engined to EFI.... probably more hassle and expense than it's worth. Yes there is. Do a google search. I was reading about them yesterday. Looks to be some $ over 1k. With that said, Anyone know what year the big 3 started to put FI on their vans? W

RE: Trip stopped short... A B mis-adventure (long story)

I'm not ready to throw in the towel on Bessie Lou quite yet. Having only had her since this summer, I still feel like we're working out the kinks in an older van. Yea, you could have the same type of problems with a new one. Mechanical/electrical and some what???......?? W
